  • 4 min read

From 15 to 21 August 2026, Gràcia becomes Barcelona's biggest (and cheapest) summer plan with kids: 23 decorated streets and squares to wander through, the funfair at the Jardinets, workshops and shows on every street, and activities designed for every family. Here's the map of the decorations and everything you shouldn't miss.

The decorated streets and squares

This year 23 decorated streets are competing in the contest, held on Wednesday 19 August in Plaça de la Vila. The big news: five streets have joined forces for the first time for a single Lord of the Rings-themed decoration.

The funfair

🎪 Beyond the timed activities, two plans are there every day: the funfair at the Jardinets and the walk through the 23 decorated streets.

💬 The funfair has been running since 7 August and stays until the 21st, so there's plenty of room to fit it in on any day. From 15 August it stays open until 2 am.

Inclusive activities

This year several neighbourhood committees and organisations have put together activities designed for different needs: adapted tours of the decorated streets, storytelling in sign language and other inclusive events spread across the festival.

How to plan the day at the Festa Major with kids

The Festa Major de Gràcia is a street party, and with kids that shows most in the timing: in the morning and early afternoon the neighbourhood is calm, you can wander among the decorations without the crush and you actually see the detail of each street. From 8 pm the mood changes sharply — concerts, crowds and noise — so if you're with little ones it's best to do your route before then.

A route that works: start at Plaça de la Vila de Gràcia, the heart of the festival and where the contest is judged, then work your way up or down through the nearest decorated streets (Verdi, Puigmartí, Llibertat, Progrés, Tordera…). Almost all of them are less than a ten-minute walk apart, so an hour and a half covers a good number. If the funfair is the plan, the Jardinets de Gràcia sit right next to Passeig de Gràcia, at the southern edge of the neighbourhood.

Mum to mum: bring water and a hat (August in Barcelona is unforgiving), a foldable buggy if your child still uses one — some stretches get crowded enough that it's easier folded — and ear protection if anyone is noise-sensitive: some streets play loud music in the late afternoon. Public toilets are scarce, so make use of the ones in the neighbourhood libraries and civic centres.

Frequently asked questions

When is the Festa Major de Gràcia 2026?

From 15 to 21 August 2026. The funfair at the Jardinets de Gràcia starts earlier, on 7 August, and also ends on the 21st.

How many decorated streets are there this year?

Twenty-three decorated streets and squares are competing this year. The contest is judged on Wednesday 19 August in Plaça de la Vila de Gràcia. The novelty in 2026 is that five committees in the south of the neighbourhood have created a single Lord of the Rings-themed decoration together.

Is the Festa Major de Gràcia free with kids?

Yes. Wandering among the decorated streets is free, and so are most of the workshops, storytelling sessions and shows run by the street committees. The exception is the funfair at the Jardinets, where you pay per ride.

What is the best time to go with small children?

In the morning or early afternoon: fewer people, a better view of the decorations and far more manageable noise levels. Concerts start around 8 pm and the neighbourhood fills up.

Are there inclusive or adapted activities?

Yes. Several neighbourhood committees and organisations run activities designed for different needs: adapted tours of the decorated streets (including an audio-described guided tour for people with visual impairments), storytelling in sign language and other events across the festival. They are confirmed as the week goes on: the map in the app is where the latest ones appear.
