Which show to choose by age
For babies there are sensory shows where they can move around freely: AIRE at L’Autèntica (ages 0 to 3), Pintamúsica at the Teatre Goya, Parpadeo at laSala in Sabadell (ages 0 to 2) and El qui no parla at the Cafè Nou in Mataró, only for babies up to 18 months. From 3 to 5, stories with music and puppets work best, such as La Caputxeta i el Llop at Sala Ars, Els tres porquets at Lluïsos de Gràcia or Vet aquí el rock at CaixaForum. From 6, the musical about Gaudí as a child at the Poliorama, Flamenkat at the Palau de la Música or Rau-rau at SAT!. And for ages 8 and up, the circus of Tenet at the TNC, the science of TermoShow at CosmoCaixa (in Spanish) or El teatre amagat, a backstage tour with the Teatre Lliure at the Palau Robert.
🎪 Miralls, in the Liceu’s Foyer, is a relaxed performance: dim lighting and a rest area for anyone who needs to step out for a moment. It suits children who find darkness or silence hard.
See the Liceu’s relaxed performanceHow to buy tickets
Each theatre sells its own tickets: each show’s page has the button to buy from its box office. Most cost between €5 and €15 per person, and several venues have rates for large or single-parent families. With babies, check the page before buying: in shows for babies the baby usually needs a ticket, while in others under-2s go free on a lap.
🎪 It is a single day and many venues are small: if you know which show you want, book early.
Beyond Barcelona: from the Vallès to the Maresme and the Llobregat
In Sabadell, the day coincides with laSala’s Festival elPetit, with dance, circus and wordless shows at laSala, L’Estruch and the Teatre Principal. There are also shows in Rubí, Montcada i Reixac, Granollers and Sant Celoni, in Mataró and Arenys de Mar, and in Esplugues, Sant Joan Despí and Corbera de Llobregat. The rest of the Catalan programme is on the official website, portamalteatre.cat.
Who is behind the day
Porta’m al Teatre is driven by the Family Committee of ADETCA, the association of theatre companies in Catalonia, with the Associació de Teatre per a Tots els Públics (TTP), the Fundació La Xarxa and 3Cat, and support from the Catalan Government through the ICEC. It is one of the measures of the First Plan to Boost Theatre in Catalonia. The poster, a tortoise with a red hat for a shell, is by Miquel Puig. During the day, the organisers run two activities for young audiences: «Fem de crítics», which records what kids think of the shows, and «Som els protagonistes», with a red carpet and photocall. Thanks to all the venues and companies that make it possible.
